Pink Ribbon Symposium on Saturday
By Virginia J. PillsburyIf you have been touched by breast cancer, it is worth spending this coming Saturday morning at the Pink Ribbon Symposium – this year celebrating its fifth anniversary.
This is my fourth year for me to write about breast cancer survivors for HealthSource and I have learned so much from these women who have freely shared the intimate physical and emotional details of their breast cancer experience. I admire their desire to help other women now on their breast cancer journey.
One thing that I find so amazing about the women that I’ve talked to is that they almost always tell me that while they would not choose having breast cancer, it has been a positive thing in their life. For one thing, they appreciate life in a way that they never had before.
One of the PRS events is a survivors’ panel that I will moderate. Five survivors will talk candidly about their cancer.
I sat with these women a few weeks ago as we planned our panel discussion. I love how open and honest they were – I love how they immediately bonded as they shared their stories. And I love their eagerness to share with others.
Breast cancer awareness month is about way more than pink ribbons – it is a time to rejoice in the latest research for finding a cure and in the comfort that we have the best specialists for breast care here in North Florida.
Come to the Pink Ribbon Symposium and rejoice with us. Saturday, October 6. Hyatt Regency Downtown, 8 am to noon.
