Everyone wants to raise a good eater.  One way to encourage your little one is to start their meals with the food you most want your child to eat (meat, veggies) and don’t show her the next until she’s finished.  The idea?  If she’s hungry, she’ll eat—and learn to like—what’s in front of her.

Bringing home a new baby can be stressful for new parents, but don’t forget that your pets will be going through a real change as well.  Play your dog a CD of baby sounds so he gets used to it and doesn’t become too excited when the baby cries.  Also, be sure to remove dog toys that look like baby toys (fluffy or squeaky) and replenish his supply with pet-specific ones like bones or ropes.  Your pup should respond consistently to “sit,” “heel,” “stay” and “no” commands before bringing your baby home to ensure your newborn’s safety.

Many babies walk pigeon-toed at first.  If your baby toddles with his feet turned in, alert your doctor, but don’t worry.  This tendency generally goes away over time.

How do you keep your tag-playing, tree-climbing, cartwheeling little monkey hydrated on hot days if she’s not keen on water? Try watermelon, strawberries lettuce and cucumbers. They contain 70 to 95 percent water. Or try yogurt. Whether plain or fruity, it’s 80% water!

Help keep your baby’s teeth healthy even before they come in!  A quick once over with a damp cloth before bed removes bacteria that can harm soon-to-erupt teeth.  Once the teeth come in, then ditch the bedtime bottle.  The milk or juice can pool in your child’s mouth as he dozes off, causing serious decay known as “Bottle mouth.”

As parents, there are few things cuter than a little tiny pair of shoes.  Most parents raising children now remember the hard soled, leather booties that were soon bronzed in fond remembrance of your first steps.   It was believed back then that children needed the extra support in order to learn to walk.  But today, experts say that a child’s foot will develop more naturally the longer he/she is allowed to walk without shoes. It’s important for parents to realize that the primary reason young children wear shoes are for warmth and protection. Children’s bones, joints, and ligaments provide them with sufficient support for routine childhood activities.

Being a mommy can be an intensely overwhelming job at times, and a close examination of how you feel at any given moment can leave you feeling anything but positive.  A tip to bringing happiness back to the day to day grind of motherhood is to keep the bigger picture in mind.  Wiping up spills, piles of laundry, tantrums and bedtimes are all things that can wear you down quickly, but if you stop focusing on the individual tasks and look at it from the perspective of how these things benefit your family as a whole, you may find more meaning in the mundane and a bigger smile on your face!
