Memorial Hospital opened its new patient tower to the public on Tuesday, December 8. With 1,600 tons of steel, 500,000 square feet of drywall and 125 miles of electrical wire, Memorial Hospital’s West Tower exemplifies state-of-the-art design.

“We are thrilled to open the West Tower for the public,” said James Wood, President & CEO, Memorial Hospital. “We started construction on the tower in 2007 in order to meet the growing health needs in Jacksonville. The new addition will allow us to continue to provide premium patient care to all patients in our community.”

National Kidney Foundation of Florida Offers Free Health Screening

What: A free health screening for people at risk for kidney disease –  area residents with diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of kidney disease.  Blood pressure measurement, blood and urine tests will be conducted on an anticipated over 100 people throughout the day.

When:                        November 14, 2009 at 9:00am – 1:00pm

Why: Twenty six million Americans have early stages of kidney disease and most don’t know it.  Many more are at risk.  Early detection can prevent or delay the onset of kidney disease and early treatment can stop the progression of kidney disease to kidney failure. More than 2 million Floridians are affected with kidney disease.
